Is Chiropractic Care Safe for Children?

Our Naperville pediatric chiropractor recommends regular adjustments for infants and children in order to keep their spines properly aligned and central nervous system functioning at optimal capacity. However, many parents wonder if pediatric adjustments are safe and effective for children. Chiropractic care for kids is completely safe and very effective. In fact, many parents notice significant improvements in their children's health, wellness and school performance after an adjustment.

Research Studies on Chiropractic Care for Kids

There have been numerous studies on the safety and effectiveness of chiropractic care for kids and infants. One of the most informative studies was performed by Joyce Miller, as reported by the ACA. The study group was divided into three sections, including parents who knew their infants were being adjusted, parents whose infants were adjusted but they were not aware and parents whose infants were not adjusted and they were not aware. At the conclusion of the study, it was determined that the infants that were adjusted experienced fewer instances of colic, and there were no instances of serious injury or harm.

Children and Infant Care Chiropractic Schedule

Infants and children need fewer and less intense adjustments than adults. We recommend that infants receive one adjustment within the first 30 days after their birth to alleviate any birthing trauma to the spine and central nervous system. Infant care should then be continued every 90 days until the age of 1 year. After the first year of life, infants and children should receive one examination and adjustment every six months to one year.
